Forty four

Some trivia about the number 44:

  • The largest number for which Wolfram Alpha offers a visual representation. I am not exactly sure what this means but the word “Wolfram” means something to me. And if you know me, you would know why.
  • The code for international direct dial phone calls to the United Kingdom.
  • Vicks Formula 44 is a cough suppressant.
  • Barack Obama is the 44th President of The United States of America.
  • The number of candles in a box of Hanukkah candles.
  • In the year 44 BC, Julius Caesar, assassinated in the Senate.
  • In the year 2044, the events of the 2012 science fiction film “Looper” take place.

Meanwhile, in the here and now, I turned 44 years old today, and my iPhone knows how to make my day!

I did receive private messages from my children, a hug from the husband and the youngest son, phone call from my parents and lots of messages from friends and family everywhere. Josica made a special tiramisu cake and brought me flowers. My colleagues made the day quite special. Thank you all.

The best part of my birthday card from work this year is this :
LLAP

I did not expect that, which makes it even better! Thank you everyone for the well wishes, the emails, the PMs, the WhatsApp messages. I do not feel my age at all 🙂

Randomness on a Sunday evening

How can I be blue when I have ribbons of rainbow on my feet?

Dusk in early Dubai winter is quite pretty, esp when you have the silhouette of the world’s tallest building in your sights.

The sunrise is not too shabby either!

It’s common place to see vintage cars like this on the road too.

Or super sleek, matte painted, top of the line Lamborghinis like this with special license plates.  That’s 777 by the way, in Arabic the number 7 is written resembling the letter V.

I hope you’re enjoying your Sunday. To those who are on the other side of the world, enjoy the rest of your weekend! To those on this side of the globe, have a great rest of the week ahead.

London: Family and friends

My output rate in blogging is way behind than my output rate in taking photos and going on adventures. This was the main reason why I succumbed to the appeal of micro blogging on social media sites. But still I’m the one at fault – if I make time to write up a post to go with the photos without such a delay, I’d be up to date.

No matter, I still have a few favourites from our UK trip so let’s get started.

Before and After

This was most of Dubai and Sharjah yesterday:

And this is us today:

I love the rain but I also love the day after it. Everything washed clean and clear. Fresh start, fresh morning.

Bernie and I are off to the pool; my knee and most of me needs a work out.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

…in a good way!

Our Hindu friends at work are celebrating the festival of lights, Diwali, this week. We cannot complain because there had been a steady flow of delicious sweets and treats!

Today being Thursday and everyone’s in a more relaxed mood, the ladies decided it would be fun to have everyone dress up in sarees. They, and I say this with affection, our Indian friends, brought spare sarees and blouses and earrings and glass bracelets for everyone! They even helped us get dressed in these flowing, colourful and pretty outfits.

I always assumed it took a lot of effort and tugging and sucking the belly in when you put these on. But all it took was a couple of twirls, a couple of tucks and a pin here and it was done!

I did not come prepared so I kept my white shirt and denim jeans underneath the saree. It did feel quite girly!

Thank you, Khushboo! x

Confession

I had to check in on my Facebook notifications tonight.

Only because there were quite a few new members signing in to the Knitting Amiras group and I’m the only page administrator who can let them in.

Still not checking newsfeed or any other notifications. My husband shows me stuff but as long as I am not posting, commenting, viewing and saving posts and videos and links, I’m not breaking my diet. *closes eyes, sticks fingers in ears and goes lalalalala*

That’s my story and I’m sticking with it.
