Saturday, 11th June 2011 was Worldwide Knit in Public Day. In Dubai it was held at the MBCo coffee shop at the Dubai Mall next to the ice rink.
Knitters could skate for free but I was not prepared to make a fool of myself on the ice so I let my kids represent me. Joseph’s wearing the Striped Noro Scarf I knitted for him.
Even Bellybutton braved the ice in her sleeveless vest. She had to enlist Mr. Penguin to help her out on the ice. She looked cute doing it too!
This is the project I brought along to the event. And I was using my large triangle bag from Piddleloop. I love love my Piddleloop bags. I need to buy more because I seem to be casting on projects all the time and I run out of bags to use.
The sock in progress is using the leftover Primo from a recently completed test-knit. I should be posting about that FO actually. This is a super short ankle sock for Eibee since she loves to wear those. I am using Eye of Partridge heels for the first time, and I love the fabric it creates. I decided to modify the sock by putting the gusset decreases on the heel, a lot like Cristi Brockway’s preferred method. It is super fast since it is super short so I hope to have one more FO to show you this week.
More on the WWKIP event, here are photos of fellow knitters. Jennifer, on the forefront, co-owner of craftland in Dubai who sponsored the event. Stephanie with her gorgeous double-knit mitten.
They start ’em out young! I feel so bad for not remembering this young lady’s name, but she was patient and kept working on her stockinette stitches while we were there.
Chloe is quite patient too. She cast on stitches on a DPN and was working a scarf. She is due to travel to India with her school friends and will be staying there for 16 days. Part of a school outreach program I believe.
Shyma is working on her Roxanne shawl. Yes, still! She is nearly at the end of Clue #3 and still has a big ball of her Wollmeise yarn left. I swear that stuff must regenerate.
Here’s another awesome project by Stephanie. It’s her Tempest cardigan in Madelinetosh Merino/Bamboo. Excellent drape on the fabric and Stephanie’s knitting is superb. She showed me the set-in sleeves she finished and was working on mattress-stitching the second one.
Yes I was there too! And so was the rest of the family including cousin Jade who shares a birthday with Eibee. So it was a bit of a late joint birthday lunch for those two. Joseph and Bellybutton were busy battling it out on the iPhone with Tap Tap Revenge so they were off-camera.
Fun times! Glad to hear that it was a great turnout. Great idea about holding the event at the ice rink. A few of us are getting together next Saturday to knit in public at a park, should be fun:)
