Mommy and Bellybutton

You already know that my niece does not shy away from the camera – she loves it! So I grab every chance I get to photograph her, even in the ladies’ room at the malls. Which has great soft lighting btw.

See what I mean? This was from our most recent outing at the Festival City while waiting for the movie to start. The kids watched “Rango” and the grown-ups saw “The Rite”. Bellybutton’s hair is all over the place with those baby curls underneath the long strands. But it frames her face nicely and the wall lighting in the ladies’ room was bright enough and yet soft on her face. I want a set up like this at home.

Not to be outdone, Mommy posed for me too. It was funny because Bellybutton was giving her Mommy directions on how to roll her shoulders and tilt her head this way and that. I brought the wrong lens again so I couldn’t get full body shots properly. Blame my tendency to bring a light, fast lens (50mm, f/1.8) as opposed to a clunky one (18-250mm, f/3.5-6.3).

One of these days, I will have a nice set up at home where I can do individual portraits and maybe even family ones.
