Photography 101

You know sometimes I wish I can quit my day job so that I can knit, take photographs and blog full time. Hands up, anyone who feels like this from time to time?

See, I knew I wasn’t the only one!

I nearly never blog about my photographs on time and today is no exception. The photographs you will see here were taken two weeks ago when our Basic Photography Class held its first outdoor activity at the Dubai Heritage Village.

It was an early start, 6am, than usual so that we can avoid the day’s heat and also possibly get a lot of sunrise photos. They did, I didn’t. With Ramadan in full swing, it was doubly hard to get going under the sun without water. We had no sneak behind corners and under trees to take a sip of water for fear of being caught by the Ramadan Police!

Okay, so with a brief orientation and reminders on camera settings etc, we posed for class and group photographs. This here is Group 6, which is composed of 4 married couples (including us!) and 5 singles. We’re a cool bunch really.

More photos after the jump.

These last two photographs were the ones I chose to submit for evaluation. The collective critique from my group was great, however the first photograph was not as sharp as it could have been and I think that may have lowered my grade for Evaluation No. 1.

I do like this next photograph so much. It reminds me of that episode of Angel, Over the Rainbow, episode 20, season 2 to be precise where the gang was transported through a portal to Pylea, which is another world, another dimension where it’s all black and white. Angel did not burst into flame when they came out the other end and it was daylight. And his hair for some reason looked so much better, I think.

Angel says, ‘Can everybody just notice how much fire I’m not on?’ and bathes in the sunlight.

I think this chair here needs Angel.
