Onward and Forward

This has got to be the most enjoyable and quickest pair of socks that I have knitted so far. It’s pretty special too as this is the first project I have using Sundara Yarn.

In August 2008, I subscribed to the Seasons Collection (Summer) not really realizing until later that Sundara Yarn is one of the most sought-after in the knitting world. It’s taken me all this time to actually knit with it and now there’s no turning back.

This colourway is from the third mailing of the club. It’s called Aurora Borealis and has the deepest shades of purple. The pattern is Spring Forward from Knitty Summer 2008.

The pattern is easy to memorize, no brainer really. I used the double-tail cast on as I find it really stretchy and I love the rolled edge that it creates. There’s the slightest hint of blue that stripes nicely throughout the socks.
I have plenty of leftover yarn which I am now knitting into a skinny garter stitch scarf to accompany the socks.

Project: Purple Sproing
Pattern: Spring Forward, Knitty Summer 2008
Yarn: Sundara Sock Yarn (Summer Seasons Collection 2008)
Colourway: Aurora Borealis
Needles: US1.5/2.5mm
Cast On: 17 Apr 2009
Cast Off: 25 Apr 2009
Notes: Top-down, using double-tail cast on. I did 4.5 repeats of the pattern on both the leg and the instep.

Last Friday was the first official monthly meeting of the Dubai chapter of the UAE Knitters Group. We met up at The Lime Tree Cafe at the Ibn Batuta Mall. The food is great and it’s more or less a central location for everyone, well except me as I live in Sharjah but I don’t mind the trip.

Here’s a peek at Jackie’s almost-finished FLS in Malabrigo Worsted Little Lovely. It looks amazing in person.

I bought my ball winder at the request of Rain and Caroline. Here are the ladies having fun with Caroline’s skein of natural alpaca. Thanks to Yanti lending us her very light and portable swift, the task went on swiftly by.

Two beautiful cakes done. The teal cake is Rain’s merino lace which she won in a competition, lucky girl, an dthe purple goodness is a merino blend from Canada which Caroline brought with her. It was nicely tweedy.

The next meeting is probably on the day that I leave for Manila (May 22nd), but no worries I get to meet them all as I have Knit Pro needles arriving which needs to be sorted and delivered to those who ordered them.
