His name is Luca

21 Jun

Last weekend, we travelled down to The Vet Hospital in Al Quoz as they were hosting an adoption/fostering programme for Feline Friends. Bernie found the advert on 7 Days and thought we’d take a look; not intending to adopt any cats at all. I wasn’t sure if the kids were ready for this kind of responsibility.

It was a swift process; they take your details, ask you some questions to see if you are suitable to adopt or foster a cat. Then they show you to where the cats were kept in their own carrying cases. It was so difficult because each cat we saw was more adorable than the one before! But I knew in my mind that I wanted an older cat, not a kitten definitely because I don’t want to be the one saddled with house-training them.

We were considering one of two brothers, either Bert or Ernie, yeah no kidding! Bert was ginger and Ernie was ginger and white. They were 1-year old and right away I knew they were not for us. Bert was so curious and would not sit or lay still. Ernie refused to get out of the box. So that was that.

We asked to see another cat, an older tabby and we all fell in love with him. Not Bernie right away because he wanted a cat with a tail, and this cat’s tail was cut short, don’t know why. Meet Luca!

WIP-tastic Monday

20 Jun

I knew putting the Expedit shelf next to the sofa was a bad idea.

It’s handy, oh yes, and that’s where I put things I need for when I’m knitting.  Easy to reach.  Naturally there is a pile of WIPs in project bags and patterns I printed out to read and consider for the queue which has grown on top of it. It is daunting to say the least. The latest addition in that pile is this skein of Wollmeise Sockenwolle 80/20 Twin, colourway Bussi. I reckon I have enough yardage to allow for a larger Magrathea shawl, maybe 31 repeats if I can manage it.

A few more photos

16 Jun

My DSLR has taken more than 20,000 photos since its life began. I think. The file number has reset to 001 again. I’m worried that it might not be too long before the end comes near for my dear 400D. Anyway, I’m going on a tangent when I meant to show you some more photos from our Abu Dhabi trip. Including this pair of keys which we uncovered in one of the suitcases while unpacking. We have no idea what this goes into!

FO: Socks and Tee

15 Jun

Despite being away for 3 days, I figure I have been productive knit-wise this past week. Proof are two finished projects in the bag, so to speak.

The first one is a pair of socks which is my Wild Card entry in my Personal Sock Club. I love the colours! Rare Gems from the Madrona stash Chi got for me a couple of years ago.

FO: In These Halls

14 Jun

When Carrie asks me to test knit a new design, I find it very easy to say “Hell yes!” Even though I have other projects on the needles, knitting something that only a few other people have seen is pretty special. It’s like sharing a secret with a friend and then smiling like an idiot when your friend tells her secret to the rest of the world and maybe sharing a knowing look because you both know the secret long before other people knew. Yes, it’s that kind of feeling.

The latest IGK test knit is an infinity scarf. It deserves a special occasion for it’s first public outing and Eibee’s 16th birthday dinner was nothing less than extra special.

Day 2 Part 2: Evening

9 Jun

Sixteen years ago to the minute, Eileen Victoria Viernes was born. She is the only one of my four children who arrived right on schedule. One was a day early, one was two days late and another was two weeks too early. Plus she is my only child who lives up to the family name: she was born on a Friday (Viernes is Friday in Spanish).

This is an incomplete family photograph, but you get the idea. The star of the evening is right in the middle; Lord knows how I managed to convince them to dress up properly for dinner!

Day 2 Part 1: Morning

9 Jun

There’s something about sleeping in another bed. Well, in my next case, the lack of it. I turned in at nearly 2am and kept tossing and turning. The bed was soft, the pillows were fluffy and the duvet was warm and soft, but I just could not sleep. I must have dozed off a bit at dawn but was up bright and early at 6.30.

The family were up at 8.30 and we headed out to get some breakfast. Here’s an unconventional family portrait. I like it.

Day 1: Road trip and check-in

8 Jun

Road trip! Yay! Was I the only one excited about it? Well no, the kids were excited too. See? Bottom right photo was taken in our hotel room as soon as we got in.

Friday

7 Jun

I love my family! I tell them to smile and they do. I tell them to pose like this and they do. Wish one of them could take a photo with me in it and not end up with blurry shots. Remind me to take the tripod on our trip to Abu Dhabi.
