Prom Night

22 Feb

Just when I was getting the daily blogging thing going, I get struck down by life in general but specifically a sore throat that won’t go away. It doesn’t help that when I open up WordPress I see that little chart on my dashboard telling me how many views my blog had today. Am I glutton for punishment or what?

Anyway, I am doing a drive-by posting here in between feeding the kids and knitting the buttonband of my Dark and Stormy and working on some new layouts for the shop labels etc. I just want to share my two middle teenagers’ special night: their first Prom Night.

Eye-candy Friday

7 Jan

Before we get to this week’s eye-candy, let me show you this thing I found in one of the shop windows in Dubai. Of course, with the cooler weather, all the woolly things are coming out, and this one garment on display caught my eye.

Out-of-office lunch

23 Dec

Last office lunch for 2010, and we did it in style. Can you guess where we went?

Here is a photo Juvy took when I didn’t have my camera glued to my face. Pretty neat, huh? And see that bird flying low over there? Cool, and yes the sky really was as blue as this.  Anyone who knows me and my opinion towards post-processing will know  that I never ever tweak photos while some do so to such an extent that it does not look real anymore.  And why yes, I hate so-called photographers who over-saturate, over-tweak and over-touch up their photographs.  I say, drop the camera and just use Photoshop because what you’re doing falls under graphic designing/artistry.  It’s no longer photography.  Okay, that’s more than 2 cents I think but you get the drift.

Crooked Forest

22 Dec

This pattern has been doing the rounds in my usual groups in Ravelry but it wasn’t until fellow Amira and recent MadTosh convert Lindsay knitted it in gorgeous Tosh Vintage that I took notice.

It’s designed by Melissa LaBarre who did Tea Leaves and Tiny Tea Leaves Cardigan, both of which I knitted this year so I knew it was going to be easy and enjoyable. I even contacted Melissa to confirm my calculations about resizing for another project and she said it was as easy as dropping a pattern repeat! Sweet.

This is my first Crooked Paths hat and I loved every minute of the 6 hours it took to knit this! It also helped that the yarn I chose is just amazing to work with. This is a gift to a friend, but my daughter is modelling it here for me.

Capital!

18 Dec

It’s hardly real that last week, I was in Abu Dhabi having fun with the knitters there.

Melissa and myself were kindly given a lift by Lou from Ibn Battuta Mall. We nearly missed the turn off to Yas Island because we were having a great time just chatting in the car. We probably would have driven right out to the UAE-Saudi border and not realised it!

Anyway, once we got to our correct destination, we met new knitters and the some old friendly faces. I hardly had time to order my coffee when there was a clamour for me to bring out my yarns! Well not so much a clamour but they did ask for it. So I opened my little wheely case and plopped down the skeins in the middle of the gathering.

Semi-secret Santa

16 Dec

It happens once a year but it’s one of those company events which cause anxiety, joy, panic, delight and frustration for everyone. Is it worth the trouble? You bet! Secret Santa is a tradition where I work and this year, Santa came early because a lot of people are going away on holiday, or have already gone.

We only have one tree up this year but it still looks very festive in the office.

Nov 23rd

24 Nov

My browser’s home page is default to Google and I stay signed in on it all the time. When I opened Firefox yesterday, I was greeted by this lovely surprise. Big brother much? Not really. I have a Google profile so they must have taken the date from there. Anyway, this is cool.

Girls at the park

17 Nov

My girls were also at the park with us last Friday. They came late, but they still came. Myrene came for the pork! It is rare that we have a photograph together. My husband was around so it was his turn to take photos.

Kids at the park

17 Nov

I debated whether to spam my weekend post with all the photos taken at the park. But decided that it’s unfair so I’m serving it up in manageable chunks instead.

The kids had great fun at the park. They got up to so mischief I’m sure but I didn’t notice because I didn’t go to the playground area this time. When they got tired of the spiderweb, the swings and playing in the sandpit, they cleaned up and posed for photos. Patrick jumped!

Together again

16 Nov

Two posts ago, I hinted at something brilliant that happened at the park. Well actually it started before then and I posted about it my Facebook account. It had something to do with me and the lady in the green shirt in this photograph.
