You already know that my niece does not shy away from the camera – she loves it! So I grab every chance I get to photograph her, even in the ladies’ room at the malls. Which has great soft lighting btw.

Yarn Along 1
15 MarJoining Ginny’s Yarn Along after seeing and loving the posts on Celtic Cast On.
~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a single photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
Reading: I picked up this book at Borders even before we went to see the film adaptation. I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore and Neil Kaplan is an engaging book. It’s written in plain English but even the addition of the Lorien and Mogadorian fictional lore it is still engaging. The film version is also very well done. Most of the time when they adapt a book to film, they film it assuming that the moviegoer knows about the backstory of the book. This time, even if you have never read the book you will understand and appreciate the story. I am looking forward to the film sequel.

It’s a Kaleidoscope World
26 FebThis will be the last up-to-date post for a while as we will be moving to a new apartment tomorrow, or rather later today, and will not have internet access for a few days.
Today was spent with family, namely my sister and brother and their families and cousin Jade. It was, first and foremost, a celebration and also an excuse to use up Entertainer vouchers. The venue: Kaleidoscope at The Atlantis on the Palm Jumeirah. The event: sister-in-law Cathy’s birthday.

Life’s a park
24 Feb… especially in Dubai!
There are a number of recreational parks in Dubai and, on weekends, they are filled with expatriates and their families. There is usually barbecue involved, maybe some picnic mats and tents depending on the weather but definitely food. If you’re in a beach park, i.e. the usual park but has a beach access, then there might be swimming involved. I don’t like those though because the changing rooms are not well equipped.
Anyway, we decided one fine Saturday morning to go to one of the free access parks in the middle of a neighbourhood and just hang out, play games or whatever. It was great because the park was almost deserted, must be because of the wind that day, but we did have a great time.

Prom Night
22 FebJust when I was getting the daily blogging thing going, I get struck down by life in general but specifically a sore throat that won’t go away. It doesn’t help that when I open up WordPress I see that little chart on my dashboard telling me how many views my blog had today. Am I glutton for punishment or what?
Anyway, I am doing a drive-by posting here in between feeding the kids and knitting the buttonband of my Dark and Stormy and working on some new layouts for the shop labels etc. I just want to share my two middle teenagers’ special night: their first Prom Night.

Awards Dinner
3 FebOnly two weeks late, but here they are finally. The photos from our company awards dinner. Since there are so many photos, I decided to make collages of some of the good ones. It starts off with the venue. Well, doh, yes it is at the Madinat Arena; at Fort Island to be precise.
The venue was under the stars and within perfect view of the Burj Al Arab. It was a cool night, with threats of rain but Mother Nature gave us a break. The 18 tables we had were all comfortably scattered around the main area of the fort with a bar to one side, the buffet tables at the back, a projection screen up in front along with a table where the awards were displayed. Oh and a dance floor up on the lounge area!

Hello, Weekend!
13 JanThe (almost) daily blog posts might fool you that I am on this thing all the time. Well, in truth, I am not. No, really I’m not. I just schedule the posts so that there is a fresh one every day. Or at least I try to make it so.
This week had been okay, but it’s been a really long week for me at work and I am just glad that the weekend is here so I can relax at home, perhaps, and spend time with the kids. I’ve never looked forward to a weekend more than now. Especially when this young man needs some TLC from his mother.

He had his second peg tooth pulled out today so he is not his “usual joyful self”. He is in bed, asleep, before midnight on a weekend so he is definitely suffering. Sleep, my baby, sleep.

I love random
11 JanI remember how in high school I used to write a lot. Like a LOT. I got published once in our school paper – I think I mentioned it before here – but it only happened because I was in the editorial staff and we had a few pages to fill. I pity those teachers and students who had to suffer my teenage angst.
Anyway, I used to enter essay/feature writing competitions and hated, no that’s not right, I loathed being given a topic from which to pull out ideas to put on paper. And the worst topic ever: the competition’s theme! It could be as boring as “Working together towards a better world for the next generation.” Gah! Excuse me while I throw up.
A…nyway. Was that random enough? Okay, if not, these photos should be. My dear daughter Eibee has been hit by the baking bug, esp the cookie kind. She wanted to bake last Christmas so she hunted for a recipe online and since we both love the inimitable and very funny Joy the Baker, she went to that website and found Joy’s Chocolate Peppermint Sandwich Cookies. We both love chocolate, and peppermint so this got a thumbs up from me too. Sorry, no photos of the cookies because it didn’t turn out quite like Joy’s, it tasted good, and oh by the way, I added a bit of Kelly Green Wilton’s Icing Colour to the peppermint-flavoured filling so it ended up in this nice light green colour, not yellow like below.
