FO: But it’s a secret

31 Jul

I finished a few projects recently, which surprised even me because they went really quickly and didn’t stay long on my needles. They were still very enjoyable though. I am not publishing this on other social networks because these are supposed to be gifts to a friend. Unless she reads my blog, then the first time she will see them will be when she receives them.

I have been stashing The Plucky Knitter’s Primo yarn for a while. While that sounds bad, I actually only have 7 skeins in stash. One does not count because it was a gift from Carrie. When Carrie asked me to test knit a new shawl design in Plucky, I chose these two colourways: Sticky Toffee (her gift to me) and The Hills.

FOs: Whitewater and Ankle Socks

More knitting content. This time I bring you some finished projects. Jackie suspected that having all the time in the world to knit is what caused my right wrist to hurt this weekend. I wrapped my hand in bandage overnight to avoid unnecessary movement during sleep and it helped. Still, I’m taking it slow.

This is my favourite part of sock knitting: grafting the toe!

FO: Hemlock Ring Blanket

25 Jun

When I received news that I became a grandmother, the first thoughts I had was “Oh, yay, I should knit baby items!” Of course that was well after all the excitement, panic and concern. I have long admired this blanket on Ravelry but never really found the motivation to make it. Until now.

See, even Luca loves getting draped in its super softness? This was a couple of days ago when I felt like I was in a knitting marathon to finish the blanket.

FO: Socks and Tee

15 Jun

Despite being away for 3 days, I figure I have been productive knit-wise this past week. Proof are two finished projects in the bag, so to speak.

The first one is a pair of socks which is my Wild Card entry in my Personal Sock Club. I love the colours! Rare Gems from the Madrona stash Chi got for me a couple of years ago.

FO: In These Halls

14 Jun

When Carrie asks me to test knit a new design, I find it very easy to say “Hell yes!” Even though I have other projects on the needles, knitting something that only a few other people have seen is pretty special. It’s like sharing a secret with a friend and then smiling like an idiot when your friend tells her secret to the rest of the world and maybe sharing a knowing look because you both know the secret long before other people knew. Yes, it’s that kind of feeling.

The latest IGK test knit is an infinity scarf. It deserves a special occasion for it’s first public outing and Eibee’s 16th birthday dinner was nothing less than extra special.

I completely forgot to post this latest shawl project. It’s the Roxanne Mystery Shawl knit along with Feministy, Liz Abinante. I had the opportunity to use a skein I bought from Etsy and after knitting for about a month, this is what I have left of the 463 yards originally.

Yesterday, I showed you this nearly finished pair of socks.

Thanks to a great, yet frustrating, episode of Game of Thrones, I finished the pair.

It feels good to get socks off the needles. Feels like forever since I knitted a pair, and this one is super special. Here is the unblocked pair, on sock blockers, minutes after I cast off the second sock.

FO: God’s Promise

24 May

When I first started knitting, I obviously had no idea what I was doing. How the heck am I supposed to make anything out of two pointy sticks and a piece of string? But I was determined. I knew long ago that I wanted to learn how to knit, but I had no one to teach me how. Thank goodness for the internet!

Soon after I was knitting, mostly dishcloths and smaller items until I discovered socks and shawls. Socks is for another day but today is all about shawls. This particular one, in fact. It’s finished, and I could not be happier. Note: due to bad indoor lighting the colours are not the same in the photos to follow. The true colour of the shawl is captured in the modeled shots.
