The past week was quite eventful : I knitted a sweater in 4 days, I stepped out of the flat while the sun was still up which is about as exciting as my life gets these days and Eibee graduated from high school. But before that, there was Senior Ball. I was not set up to take proper photos but I think I managed to get them okay.

A new chapter begins
22 MayMall Tour
21 MayDuring one of our weekend mall trips, we passed by a novelty shop where these two sheep were “performing”. Shaun the Sheep! the kids exclaimed. And I immediately thought, oh Sean Franks, a Welsh bloke from my former employers who went by that nickname at the HK7s this year. Although I don’t think Sean would dance in front of random shoppers like this. Or maybe he would

In pursuit of a chopper
21 MayA while ago, my son Patrick was in hot pursuit of a remote controlled helicopter toy. The first one he got at Magic Planet from the points we accumulated was a really dodgy one so we promised him we’ll get him a better one. So last weekend, we went to the Great Mall of China in pursuit of a chopper.
But before all that, let me show you a sneak peek on a new yarn base for the shop. This is 75% superwash merino, 25% nylon in fingering weight, put up as 100g skeins with about 380 yards post-dyeing. This test skein is called Ballerina, a delicate and very feminine shade of pink.

Rain
18 MayOver a year ago, I offered a skein of my hand-dyed yarn as a Ravelympics prize for the Amiras. I think. Can’t remember, but anyway, Rain was the winner of the skein so we talked about which colour she wanted. She wanted blue. I dyed one skein (on the left) and showed it to her but she was looking for something slightly darker. So I dyed another (on the right) which she loved. Phew! A week ago, we met up for a knitting catch-up and she showed me the scarf she knitted with this skein.

Trade made of win!
17 MayA while ago I received this sweater quantity of Tosh Merino from the Magnolia Society Sweater Club. I’ve been going back and forth on what project to make with it and couldn’t decide. Mainly because the yarn and the finished project would be quite dense and warm for Dubai’s weather so I will not get much mileage unless I crank up the AC all the time.
But it is a beautiful dark blue colour called Stovepipe. Well, a few weeks ago I got talking to Melissa about a possible trade for this stash. I think I got the better end of that deal though.

Amiras Weekend
9 MayA Friday with the Amiras is always so much fun: it involves knitting, food, yarn, food, chatting about projects, food….you get the idea. LOL. Hala and I were not strong enough to resist the call of this yummy chocolate cake. She had been craving this so was only happy to oblige.

Bowled over
5 MayLast night was our corporate bowling event – 10 months after the first one.
Rob, who organized the event again, kindly made it my farewell party too. I am leaving the company on Monday after 5 and a half years. It was great to have this one final social event before I left. And everyone chipped in to get me a going-away present. Here’s a hint.

Movie date
3 MayIt may look like we are always going out, but seriously it only happens on weekends. And not even every week because if the kids have exams coming up we try to stay at home and get them to hit the books. Like the case this coming week for this young lady who likes to smile her toothy smile when the camera is focused on her. She has her final exams next week and it is in her best interest not to go out partying or mall hopping or doing anything else that does not involve books and notes and hours of studying. Yes, Eibee that is a message for you! Love you!

Black Saturday
28 AprIf it were up to me, we would have stayed home this past weekend, being Holy Week and all. As Roman Catholic, I grew up being told that you were not allowed to play, have fun or do much during this time of the year. Of course, now I know that it was just the adults trying to keep you quiet and make you sit still without resorting to threats of bodily harm.
We did go out, and this sight was one of two that greeted us on our way to Festival City. The other one was too graphic for this blog. It looked like no one was seriously hurt though.

Cupcake weekend
23 AprBefore I give you photos of our cupcake weekend last week, let me share something that made us all laugh. The Amiras, five of us, met last Friday at Jackie’s home. It was awesome, and Jackie served us these crackers along with the yummy cranberry cheese, brie and something else. Salticrax. Ha ha ha!
