My next (super)model

28 Sep

The search is over. No, not talking about that obscure 80′s song by Survivor. Although if you do know that song and can sing it from start to finish, fist bump!

I am talking about my search for my next model. You know Myrene by now, right? She’s in heaps of photos here in my blog and in my Facebook account. I’ve never really looked at her in this light, but now that I have I am convinced that I found my next model.

Fish-tastic Monday

27 Sep

Sorry, no WIP-tastic post today since what I showed you last week are pretty much still WIPs. I did finish a project so quickly that it didn’t even live to see Monday!

These guys however are here to entertain you. When I showed the photo to Patrick he asked if I went on a field trip! Yes, baby, Mama went to a field trip and saw fishes…in the office lobby! These are from our aquarium in the office.

Weekend? What weekend?

27 Sep

This paper napkin from Caribou Cafe sums it all up nicely, doesn’t it?

I wholeheartedly agree, and doing my best now to live every moment. It’s difficult esp with all the years of mental conditioning coupled with the negative stimulus all around us. You can hardly be blamed for getting absorbed in the small details that you forget to live life.

But as they say in Dead Poets Society – Carpe diem!

This Little Something

25 Sep

Emphasis on the little because, sadly, this is too small for my daughter.  And yes, that is a Bobicus Maximus Ravelympics 2010 pin on the cardigan! Simply because I haven’t found the right button for it yet.

Eye-candy Friday

24 Sep

Ravelry says that 9.7% of my stash is in the red colour family. That’s actually surprising since I thought I have more of it. And that’s just actual red, not red orange or red with colours from other family.

I want to show you some of the most vivid reds in my yarn stash, starting with this gorgeous garnet silk lace from Lisa Souza.

WIP-tastic Monday

20 Sep

Three skeins of my Faith, Hope and Love yarn were specially and selfishly dyed recently with the ambitious plan to knit Miriam A. Felton’s Seraphim Shawl. I fell in love with the pattern when I saw it recently, and then bought it when Miriam had a 3-for-2 sale on her patterns. I bought another shawl and sock patterns, but this one, Seraphim, is what I have been itching to cast on.

This is going to be a lot of stockinette knitted flat, but it will be awesome when I get to the lace part. Can’t wait!

My children

20 Sep

I love my family. I love taking pictures of them. Sometimes they like it, sometimes they don’t. But when they do, it’s all kinds of fun for everyone.

This is the very latest photograph I took of them. Taken just before we went up to Myrene’s apartment to celebrate her birthday. Joseph was wearing the 3D glasses from the cinema. Patrick was wearing a hooded jacket in the car because the AC was too cold. Eibee and Bernie were just looking at the two silly boys. Don’t let the cool looks fool you – it was hot out that day!

Family

19 Sep

I saw this book at Virgin one day and it made me laugh and cringe. Whilst we have not done much formal portraits as a family, a few dodgy-looking photographs are framed around our house which make me want to throw in the bin or rip into a thousand tiny pieces.

One of my most hated photograph was taken at our high school graduation day. It was taken with a film camera so there was no way to edit or delete, or take another one right away for instance. When it got developed, I was shocked. I mean, literally. It was a photo of my sister, my father and me – and my mouth was hanging open! Probably telling my grandmother, who took said photo, to take a step back or something. Since it was the only photo of the three of us during the entire evening, I have no other choice but to live with it. It now proudly hangs in my sister’s house, next to her pretty university graduation portrait with not a strand of hair out of place. Hmpf!

Then again, there are some which I would proudly put on display for guests. This one was taken in 1996 in Manila. It was the first time that we were all in one place and got along long enough to get into a cramped studio with hot lights and cranky kids. We actually get along better than most families that I know. Just your typical extended Filipino family.

Birthday weekend

18 Sep

Last week, against my better judgement, I left the house in the middle of the long Eid weekend. It was for a good cause though: food! Or to be specific, a joint birthday celebration for Myrene and her son, Johann. Don’t these guys look cute together?

Eye-candy Friday

17 Sep

I thought it would be best to keep a schedule of when I post photos of my stash, esp the newly acquired ones. Since I started WIP-tastic Monday, although faltering a bit this week, it only makes sense to do something regular for my stash.

It should also help remind me that I. HAVE. WAY. TOO. MUCH. YARN. :)

Here we go…
