Amiras at GC

19 Aug

This once a month knit-and-meet is just not enough for us Amiras!

We are meeting up again tomorrow, thanks to Debbie for offering to host us in her beautiful home at the Green Community. It’s a great excuse for us to see/fondle her stash and also meet her spinning wheel for the very first time, for some of us anyway. And, of course, I will there pimping out Dubai Knits. :)

Anyone who has not read the chatter on Ravelry but are following my blog, I hope you can come and join us tomorrow.

Chasing butterflies

18 Aug

The day is about to end and I have not blogged about anything. The Yarntini giveaway was just too good not to post immediately so this post is being finished only now.

Anyway as I was saying, I was trying to figure out what to say on the blog today, which should really be the easiest thing in the world to do, but no! It’s like trying to pass gall stones, or at least I think that’s what it’s like since I have never had gall stones. Thank God for that.

I realized I have not blogged about these photos of Juvy.  It was not a proper setup since I only had the existing room lighting plus my trusty 430EX flash.  It was a lot of trial and error and some improv, I think it worked out okay considering what we had to work with.  And Juvy was always a willing model, so thanks!

Fancy a Yarntini?

18 Aug

Hey knitters, here’s your chance to win a skein of Yarntini Self-Striping Sport.

Visit Olof’s blog post, read up about Jessie’s fabulous yarns and follow the directions on how to enter. Seriously, it’s not gonna hurt.  Jessie’s got some last call self-striping in the shop now, if you hurry you might even catch some of them.

A different kind of clinic

17 Aug

We were up early on Saturday morning, a most unusual thing for us since Saturday is our lie-in day. It’s our we’d-like-to-do-nothing day. Unfortunately for the next few Saturdays, it will be an early start as the boys have signed up for basketball clinic.

I bet this little birdie caught the worm that day too!

These are mine

16 Aug

It’s been a while since I dyed something for myself. I try not to do it thinking I’m wasting my naked yarn when I could actually dye it for the shop. But that’s rubbish since I could always get more from the mill. Oh but then I see patterns I like and wish I could knit it in a colourway that I really like. Something not quite the same as the 290 other yarns in my stash.

This shop will just have to wait for new colours while I satisfy my own desires.

Metro Life

Joseph finally had his hair cut! Yes! Mama: 1, Joseph: 0. It’s still long if you ask me but better than what it was. You won’t believe how much time he spent in front of the mirror last Friday trying to figure out how to style his new mop. Like a girl!

我々は寿司が大好き

12 Aug

The subject reads: Wareware wa sushi ga daisuki. Or we love sushi, in English. But this is not sushi, no. It’s a bunch of “blue” roses at a florist we passed by last night while waiting for the call to prayer.

It’s Ramadan and the Muslims started their month-long fast so food shops are closed during the day. No eating or drinking in public until after sunset. It’s a bit weird for newbies, but we’ve been here forever so it’s almost second nature to us now. We automatically switch on the “Ramadan” mode as soon as it starts.

If you are new to the country, it’s a great way to immerse yourself right into the culture and traditions. Everywhere you go, you will be faced with so much fact and trivia and images and actual examples of the culture. You have no other impulse but to embrace and accept it.

New stuff

12 Aug

Found in the More Cafe menu.

Toasted bums anyone? Hahaha! None of us had the nerve to ask t he restaurant staff if that was a typo or not. We certainly didn’t want to see samples of any toasted bums, thank you very much!

Dreaming in Colour

11 Aug

These are plastic flowers from IKEA but they look great on camera. Especially when you use a Mark IV. *sob sob* It was with a heavy heart that I returned the camera earlier this week. The next photographer in the queue would surely fall in love with it like I did.

Okay, okay, enough about the bloody Mark IV! Moving on…
