Spa-aaahhh!

29 Jun

I have no shame in saying this: we’re addicted to spas!

We could live in a spa. Heck, I want to live in a spa! Imagine all the massages and the facials and the beautiful smells 24/7? Heaven.

Not long ago, which is to say I can’t remember now since I delayed posting about it again, Eibee and I went to Raffles Amrita Spa for facials and massages. Amrita is an oasis in the middle of a concrete desert. If it wasn’t so hot outside we probably would have swam in the 4th level pool too! We said we’d stick to the jacuzzi instead but, was it our bad luck or what, the jacuzzi was out of order. So it was straight off to the separate treatment rooms.

Friday with the Amiras

Howdy!

You know how life tends to get in the way of your blogging? Happens all the time to me. I take photos, dream up stuff to blog about and I actually make it as far as uploading stuff but can never get to publish the post in time. So yeah, this is one of those catch-up posts again.

Last Friday, the UAE Knitters, which henceforth will be referred to in this blog only as the Amiras, met up for a bit of lunch, a spot of knitting and a whole lot of chatting and fondling yarn and each other’s projects. The lovely Jackie opened up her beautiful home at the Green Community for us.

That’s not part of the menu! That is my newly finished Snapdragon Tam!

At Raffles

16 Jun

This is my family. Well, our reflection against a mirror anyway. We had lunch at Azur at Raffles Dubai last Saturday.

It was yummy. The place was alright, with plenty of natural light.

New yarn plus a(nother) WiP

11 Jun

The knitting never stops. If I could do it in my sleep, I would! But you’re here for the eye candy so here goes.

Yarntini’s Knit, Drink and Be Merry Semi-Solid Club is going strong. So far the colours are rich and highly saturated, until May’s shipment which is called Mint Fizz. It’s cool to the eyes, just like an iced lemony minty drink would be on a hot summer day!

I’ll spare you the sordid details of how I almost lost this precious skein, but will tell you that I plan to knit my second Swallowtail Shawl with it. I’m also knitting with Yarntini for the first time, but more on that later.

Finally…a cardigan!

8 Jun

>Well, not quite a cardigan yet but it will get there soon enough.

I signed up to a KAL with the Madeline Tosh Lovers and Skein Queen groups in Ravelry. The design? Connie Chang Chinchio’s Austin Hoodie. I’ve always admired Connie’s designs but have been too chicken to try to knit them. I read this pattern through as soon as I bought it and it seems do-able.

The next hurdle for me was the yarn choice. The design was knit with Tosh Merino Light, a new base which I do not have any of! What I do have are 3 sweater quantities worth of other MadTosh yarn all sitting in the cupboard. I decided I would use Tosh DK in Wisteria from the last Sweater Club.

Next was the fun part: swatching! I did it religiously. Three times. Aren’t you proud of me?

Recipe for a Shawlette

6 Jun

Sadly a shawlette is not a food item.

But if it were, I think the ingredient list would include lots of soft, creamy butter.

And some sugar. Maybe a few drops of vanilla essence for some added aroma. And chocolate? Yeah, there must be chocolate!

Always.

But no, this shawlette looks more like this.
