Lightform

30 Apr

I’ve been holding on to these photos for a while now. Just haven’t had a chance to blog about them. These were taken during the final session of our photography class in March. It was a final chapter on flash photography where the instructor brought along a continuous light source, in this case a video camera light, and we all took our turns taking photos using single flash mounts.

Some of our classmates volunteered to model for us. Some were even daring enough to take their clothes off!

It felt nice

28 Apr

It’s a corny subject title but that’s what it was. It felt nice having finished a project which I have queued since I began knitting.

It felt nice finishing this as a tag team. The recipient, my daughter Viel, helped me knit the 60-foot garter stitch strap. I could not have done this without her help.

It felt nice having done a project which required seaming and then successfully seaming it without losing my mind!

Finally, it felt nice having a finished project which looks like how it should and is slowly becoming a favourite.

Our little family

28 Apr

I do love taking photos of my family, esp when they are cooperative and tolerate my incessant need to get the shot just right.

My husband was a patient model when I was learning the basics of photography. Bless him.

Still Rockin’

28 Apr

I just realised that I never blogged about The Great Rare Gems Haul of the New Year!

I bought these skeins of Rare Gems but only two came home with me. The reds and the blues went home to Jackie, the green/brown and white/blue are mine.

Stash Update

20 Apr

I swear I haven’t spent any money on yarn. These are all from yarn clubs or previous purchases which arrived while I was away on holiday. I thought I’d share them with you here, as fiber lovers do.

My subscription on the Madeline Tosh Sweater Collection has sadly come to an end, but a very beautiful end might I add! The final shipment is 8 skeins of Tosh Merino in dark and beautiful Stovepipe. I haven’t knit with any of this club’s shipment but have plans for them already. Three sweater-quantity lots of beautiful yarn = three sweaters, one each for me and my two daughters. Just need to decide on the patterns.

I am sure I’m just one of many MadTosh lovers who are wishing that the next sub would include Tosh Vintage!

Together Again

19 Apr

Sorry, hindi po si Guy and Pip ang paksa dito…kundi mga anak ko.

The kids are back in Dubai. First thing we did as a family? Ride the Metro. We’re that easy to please. We boarded the train at the Rashidiya Station which is the end of the red line on the north and took it up to the Mall of the Emirates station. We got off the train but didn’t punch out. We did a U-turn and headed the other way towards Dubai Mall where we spent most of the day.

Fun with bokeh

18 Apr

I recently bought a Bokeh Masters Kit after seeing a post about it in the Digital Photography School forum. Since I live in Dubai, the kit had to travel to New York first before coming to me esp as the seller and maker of the kit, Udi Tirosh lives in Israel and ships the kit out of Israel. Big no, no for the UAE. So yeah, a big loud, raspberry at you UAE postal system – I got stuff sent through from Israel!

Okay, must quiet down in case Big Brother is watching.

I tried it out a few weeks ago when we went out to the park. Good thing there were these LED lights wrapped around the trees which provided the light source I needed to get the kit to work the way it is intended.

I brought along my Nifty Fifty and took these photos of my daughter Viel.

Gettin’ jiggy with it

18 Apr

There, that should be enough as a spoiler warning, right?

Carrie Sullivan, thank you for helping me be very good this year for the RSC. Two of the fastest pairs of socks I ever knitted are both your designs; Cotty and this below.

Some Sundara Love

17 Apr

One of my most-stashed yarn is from an indie dyer in the US who puts the most vivid colours on wool and silk: Sundara Murphy.

The first skein of yarn I bought from her was from the Seasons Collection in 2008. Unlike most Sundaraphiles, it took me ages before I managed to knit that first skein of yarn. I always knew I wanted to make socks with it and when I bought Knitting Socks with Handpainted Yarn, I fell in love with the first pattern on the book.

I knew then that I will knit a pair of Zigzag Anklets with me skein of Cerulean Seas sock yarn. And here it is. All done. Sadly not in time for Ravelympics 2010, but they are done regardless.
