One down, eleven to go

31 Jan
Yes, another post about the Leyburns. But can you blame me? I finished these babies last Thursday and gave them a bath that evening. They didn’t dry up thoroughly until this afternoon so no photos until now.

Aibi is quite pleased. The colour on the first one, or lack thereof, is about a third of the actual colour. My camera settings are off.

Pink Leyburns
Yarn: Socks That Rock Lightweight
Colourway: Rosebud
Needles: 2.25mm circulars
Notes: Eastern cast on toe-up, 51 stitches on foot and 67 on leg, followed the double-wrap short-row heel tutorial by cosmicplutoknits and the picot-edge cuff sewing off tutorial from Jeannie.

Socks #1 for 2009 – right on schedule

I use the KFB (knit into the front and back of the stitch) when doing my toe increases. I like it better than the M1s because those create visible holes. As Cristi (turtlegirl76) would say, toe pic!

I love the roundness of it

And the picot edge cuff. I’m inlove with this sucker and might do all my socks this way. Of course not the ones for the male members of my family.

Gentle peaks and valleys

I’m happy with this pair and will want to knit another pair of Leyburns this year but in a wilder colourway.

Friday Knitting Club

31 Jan
I wish we could call it that!

The Lime Tree Cafe at Ibn Battuta Mall became a flurry of introductions, food, yarn, books and patterns, more food, photo ops and knitting. It was wonderful! For something that was organised over a thread in Ravelry, this thing was quite successful. Jennifer came along and brought some new goodies. I didn’t buy anything this time but asked her to put my name down for a swift when she gets her next stock in.

It was so nice to put real names and faces to the Raverly names and avatars after all this time. Everyone is so nice and it’s just great to hang out, talk shop and find out more about each other and our families. Next time, I’ll try and make an effort to go to the SnB in Abu Dhabi.

Thank you so much one and all for a most wonderful Friday!

And yes the big cast on for the February Lady Sweater Knit-Along happened! I think 6 of us in all joined in the group cast on: me, Jackie, Hala, Lindsay, Charmaine and Rama. Lindsay and I are both using Blue Moon Fiber Arts yarns, hers in Twisted Rose Quartz and mine in STR HW Corbie. Charmaine has the kettle-dyed rich green Malabrigo, Rama in an equally lovely shade of green Knit Picks Kettle Dyed, Jackie in her ‘temporary’ Sublime Cashmere Merino Silk Aran and Hala in Debbie Bliss Stella. I’m pretty sure there’s more in the KAL but I might be wrong. Sorry, no photos as I need to get permission from these ladies if I can post their photos on my blog.

The Swan Song socks are still enjoying Dubai – and my feet!

I started a project last night. Basic Ribbed Socks in Opal Magic for my father. Yes, I am doing them with DPNs. About time I try to fully conquer any fear of DPNs. Using 2.5mms so it’s not as difficult. I have a fair bit of striping already and I love it! I’m doing the men’ s large and hope it would fit my father’s feet.

Order up! The latest item in the menu at Pane Caldo, Uptown Mirdif.

My Noro scarf is going well. I have a feeling I need to buy more of the darker colourway because I’m not even halfway there and I can see the yarn won’t be enough. I’m enjoying this mindless knitting though!

Is that the new meatloaf at Pane Caldo?

I had a bit of nightmare with my latest Shop&Ship parcel. It was a box from Amazon.com containing 10 of the latest Chicken Soup books which my office asked me to order for them, a copy of the most excellent Knitting Socks with Handpainted Yarns by Carol Sulcoski and the first book in the Undead and Undwed series (as rec’d by Lee!). Because US Customs have to inspect the shipment, the cover and first three pages of Undead and Unwed had a sharp, clean cut from the sharp instrument they used to slice the tape open on the box. I managed to put cellotape on it and it looks okay, but if it was one of my yarn shipments I would probably freak out big time. I emailed S&S rightaway and told them this. Hopefully they can relay the message and make sure my expensive, exclusive and hard-to-get yarns are not ripped to shreds. I’m getting palpitations just thinking about it!
